good ole che
i read the glen beck comentary here: http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/07/17/beck.che.guevara/index.html

excerpt:
How Che became such a revered superhero of the hard-core left is laughable. First of all, he wasn't even a good revolutionary. He failed in his attempt at world revolution almost as badly as communism has failed in the places it was actually tried.

"This is a history of a failure" is how he himself described his efforts in the Congo. He was killed in Bolivia, trying to fire up another failure of a war. Earlier, he even managed to drop his gun and shoot himself in the face.

But more important than his incompetence is the fact that the man was a mass killer. Hundreds were reportedly executed on his watch, and that doesn't include the deaths incurred in the wars he was constantly trying to start. He described his maniacal lust for war in his writings, saying he savored "the acrid smell of gunpowder and blood of the enemy's death." How this guy is a hero to the anti-war crowd is truly perplexing.

I should also point out what seemingly gets eliminated from the Hollywood movies attempting to glorify him: his bouts with racism. When describing the differences in the strife between "Europeans" and "the black," the supposedly progressive-minded Che wrote, "their different attitudes of life separate them completely: the black is indolent and fanciful, he spends his money on frivolity and drink; the European comes from a tradition of working and saving which follows him to this corner of America and drives him to get ahead."

yeah. i've never had respect for ppl who wear that che shirt. one time i had a whole table laugh at a guy that boasted owning a che poster. i asked him if he had bought it and his silence was his answer. (the punchline is that he was pro-communist yet took part in the capitalist dogs' system by purchasing the poster).

i feel the same way about drugs. drugs are not a victimless crime. a lot of innocent people and children are killed in gang wars. a lot of ppls' lives are destroyed by drugs. sure, make a rational decision to do drugs if you want, but bear in mind you are part of the problem. you are part of the fodder that makes u.s. citizens want to put a border wall up.

no, i'm not free of fault, but on some issues i just don't budge. i just thought it was an interesting commentary by glen beck. he encapsulated a lot of the thoughts i had on the subject. plus, this is good research on thom, my unfinished graphic novel.

beck is tolerable.
rush is a closet gay and is racist.
bill o'rly is a megalomaniac idiot.
lars larsen is an amateur.
don't get me started on sean hannity.

it's infuriating that they will all say they deliver the news (as if they were journalists) but then will vehemently deny they are journalists when they have someone like george will on air with them.

p.s. i listen/watch both sides whenever i get the chance. (npr, cnn, conserv. talk radio, drudge)

thats about right.

i listen to what makes sense to me. while im probably left leaning, im more concerned with things "not sucking" than anything else- so i pay attention and try to make sense of things myself. overall, the media is irritating because it seems to strive to maintain a "balanced" perspective... but you can't really call it balanced just because you're covering both sides "evenly" when one is clearly, CLEARLY, an evil, corrupt piece of shit. by acting like both are equal, the media is doing us a disservice. so, ive become frustrated with even npr and prefer to not really listen to the news much at all as a whole.

the exception to the balanced perspective is, of course, Fox, which ironically claims to be fair and balanced.

But...I like Lattes.

:)

No, I don't actually. I prefer to make my Nescafe Clasico with milk. Oh wait...shit, that IS a latte.

He got that Che poster at Spencer's, huh?

By the way, we're ALL part of the problem, business man. Aren't you bastardizing Mexican culture with your "Luchador" show? Luchador iconography is all over the malls and the country.

:p

Sorry, I had to. I do drugs. Over the counter or illegal. Whatever I can get my grubby little hands on. Actually my fingers are stubby but my palms are quite large.

:)

money allows me to carry out my vision, hopes and dreams and all that. money can help me help others realize their own aspirations. i like making rent, and that's pretty much all i can hope for and appreciate.

i'm planning to write a little essay on the history of the luchador that will hopefully shed some light on its cultural relevance (if anyone reads the exhibit statement) . . . (if anyone still reads). . .

hey, you know i've always reserved respect for ppls' choices as long as they were educated choices and weren't just to be "cool."

i think a lot of choices have been taken out of our hands.
