sorry for no updates in a while. i've actually been busy.

1. put together the first 12 pages of thom for an ashcan teaser. printed up only 50 copies at 8.5x11. they look nice but i'm noticing some things i want to change.
2. had an artist group meeting last week in sept and incorporated some suggestions from the group.
3. got a call thursday oct 4th from a local bank asking if i could set up a show for the local artwalk on FRIDAY, oct 5. i said yes and hung it that next morning. only 18 ppl showed but that's only because it was the first time the bank participated and there was no marketing. the website is sorely outdated. i got a free shirt.
4. oct 5-6 i had a table at shimakon on south padre island. it went ok. mostly broke kids into anime. no one was really into indie comics. they liked my chibi version of vegeta though. i got to meet some nice ppl though. the anime con got about 500 or so ppl, but i couldn't really tell. they still need some work with organization. i sold a few things but nothing to offset the costs. . . eh, me and my wife enjoyed ourselves a wee honeymoon.

4a. went to cyber comics in edinburg and met with the owner and "manager." talked about shimakon and maybe getting a sketch group together. the manager liked my work and commissioned me to draw the juggernaut. when i get it done, it'll be a cool $75. i go over every so often to work on it.

5. this past weekend i recorded a guitar part and some vocals for a re-formed indie band named murphy jr. it was fun and i had to get used to the shotgun recording style really fast. :0
6. i recorded again with my wife! i laid down some recorder and whistling sounds for her. she does musique concrete.
7. then we cleaned the house.

what did you do?

actually, drew. i drew all night, ms. lauper.

got word i was offered a space to show my art work at 11am thursday.
it was finalized and i have a one man show at a credit union of all places. the opening is tonight at 6pm.

i had to postpone attending the first day of shimakon 2007. but i did finish a chibi version of vegeta they requested. i STILL need to print up a thom ashcan to sell at the con.

so hectic and crazy right now!

wow. i just storyboarded page 15 and already outlined it on blueline in 20 minutes. that's pretty fast for me. daresay i get pencils done tonight??!?!

yeah, it's been a while since i've worked on thom.
so i decided to post a complete page!!!
here's number 14.
we find thom (in flashback -- where most of the opening chapter is set) confronting shrill, a clutchmate who's rather hard on our main character.

i started using ink and a brush on this page. smeared it up a couple of times because the ink wasn't completely dry. fixed it up with my new intous 3 tablet. works beautifully.

i know not every page is a winner, but i'm enjoying my time and the learning curve.
i just need to get more nose to the grindstone to achieve some overall style consistency.

yeah, i took russell's advice from domy books (not in so many words) and set up my flickr account. i need to clean it up a bit though.

my mini comic is done!
it's my very first one and i'm kinda proud of it.
it's available nowhere!

i'll be trying to sell it at the oct. 1 mission, tx show and offering sketches in the back for $2 (i'm thinking). i made it a point to print the cover on 67 pound, acid free paper in case someone wanted a sketch.

let me know if anyone wants a copy.

we'll see how it goes.

congrats to shannon wheeler (aka tmcm who pulled off a spectacular opening night of tmcm the opera! he's in the history books as the first person to create a comic (book) opera (or whatever the term . . . it's 5am and i've gotten no sleep). big congrats to him, his vision and the crew that put it all together!

i got the table today for $30. 6x2.5 feet of real estate. 12x5 feet if you count the underside. i'm waiting on a partner to see if he will, indeed, go halvesies on the table to promote his gig and a collaborative anthology of local comic book artists and writers that we want to do. we'll see how that goes.

i think i'm going to set sept 23 as the deadline to send me your stuff if you want me to whore your wares out to the masses of south texas. so far i got boxbrown and bozoartist considering, but i need confirmation emails with all your info. basically, the 23rd is your day to confirm and send your stuff. i'm not going to worry about it until then. it's an open invite to all! i think this'll be great! i'm happy to help!

today is diez y seis de septiembre. i'm supposed to do something today. according to television commercials in the past 5 years or so, i'm supposed to go out and buy coronas and beat my wife-g/f. well . . . i'm taking her to a pachanga tonight.

i suppose i should get back to storyboarding page 11 and penciling it. the mini is coming along nicely.

i had problems scanning the halves for page 9. but before i decided to rescan, i was nagged by the empty space to the bottom right. so, i decided to post a small version of it here to ask if any of you think i should fill up the space or just let it go. i'm going to storyboard the next page so i want to put this one in the can asap.
